General Information

ATG12 is a Ubiquitin-like protein which first gets activated by the common E1 enzyme ATG7 and then is conjugated to ATG5 by the specific E2 enzyme ATG10 (PMID: 22682742). It later binds to ATG16L1 and forms a functional trimeric complex ATG12-ATG5-ATG16 which interacts with ATG3 acting as an E3 enzyme further responsible for LC3-PE conjugation (PMID: 23503366).
