Beclin2, a homolog of Beclin1, interacts with class III PI3K complex proteins and bcl2. Although both the proteins share similar interactors, AMBRA1 is reported to have stronger coimmunoprecipitation with BECN2 than with BECN1. Beclin2 heterozygous knockout mice also show defective autophagy. Additionally, Beclin 2 is required for ligand-induced endolysosomal degradation of several G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) making Beclin2 function as a converging regulator of autophagy and GPCR turnover.
