LC3A, a member of the LC3 family, is a ubiquitin-like modifier involved in the formation of autophagosomes and regulates autophagy (PMID: 22249245). LC3A conjugates with phosphatidylethanolamine to bind with the autophagosomal membrane. Its sequence is highly similar to LC3B, and it has been suggested that LC3A can also be used as an autophagy marker (PMID: 16300744). The localization of LC3A is in the perinuclear area under normal conditions (PMID: 27418283). LC3A demonstrates potential tumor-suppressive effects in lung cancer by regulating mitochondrial and energy homeostasis (PMID: 34470575)
