UVRAG acts as an activating factor of PIK3C3 complex during autophagy induction. The protein interacts with Beclin-1 which leads to the further recruitment of functional PIK3C3 complex. Studies show the UVRAG mutant destabilises the complex and leads to disassembly. This results in decreased autophagosome formation impacting the autophagic flux (PMID: 31831743).
